INTENTION, ATTENTION, AND MANIFESTATION - H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar


The universe functions with intention, attention, and manifestation. Wherever you put your attention that starts manifesting in your life, if you put too much attention on anger, anger manifests, too much attention on lust, lust manifests, on greed, greed manifests. When the intention is love, even anger is beneficial, that's what was the case with the rishi, Dhurvasa, every time he was angry some great thing happened on the planet, and it did not only good to all mankind. Are you with me, do you hear what I'm saying? So observe the intention where you want to put it, whatever you would like to manifest: focus on imperfection and imperfection will manifest, focus on love in life and love manifests.
Addiction starts with the repeated experience of the same sense object, repeated experience of a particular sense object creates an addiction, or a habit. The repeated association with a particular sense object create a sense of craving for it. Leaving the habit become painful, but having it does not give you any bliss, or ecstasy - this is the definition for a habit.If you are habituated to eating ice cream almost every day, you get a craving for it. Nobody is born with a craving, but you have started a habit within you that has created the craving. Drinking coffee every day is not carrying you to heaven, but leaving it gives you a headache. Similarly, all those who are into alcohol and drugs, look at their faces, they are not in an ecstatic state of consciousness filled with joy.
In fact it is the other way around, there is not joy on an alcoholics face, even if you squeeze it not a drop of joy will come out, the alcohol has cleanly washed out the joy with which one is born. That joy and innocence has been robbed away, washed out. So alcoholism, sex addiction, any type of drug addiction, all these are the result of repeated experience, or association of a particular sense with the object of sense.Again it is a fine line, when the association happens repeatedly, desire for it arises more, and whether the desire is fulfilled or unfulfilled, anger comes. Whenever there is anger, behind the anger you will see there is a desire, a craving, and the craving brings anger. When you become angry, the next step is you get attached, and whomsoever or whatsoever you are angry with, sooner or later you regret and regret brings more attachment to the person, or situation, or to the sense object. By regretting you don't move above something, you go more into it. When you think of someone whom you hate, your nervous system undergoes such a distortion, there is a distortion happening within your system.
This means you nervous system is assuming the form of the person whom you dislike, and when you keep doing it again and again you get all their impressions, and your system becomes like them. So when you become like them you get drawn to them, and this is entanglement.An obsession bring anger, anger brings entanglement, and entanglement clouds the intellect, your intellect blurs, your wisdom is lost, judgement is lost, sharpness of awareness is lost, and your ability to access the situation is lost. The entanglement whether out of love, or out of hate, clouds the intellect. A clouded intellect doesn't let you be in peace and such a distorted intellect doesn't even bring up the subtle feelings in you, any feelings you'll have will be gross feelings, violent feelings, you don't feel lighter when there is hatred within you.Your vibration indicates what there is inside you, whether you are light like a flower, or you are heavy like a stone, this shows up in your vibrations, in your surroundings. Look at someone who is worried, there is such a sense of heaviness, and heaviness is contrary to joy, contrary to love, and contrary to all that you cherish as human values. With this the memory of pleasant thing is lost, and life has two sets of memory, one is the memory of unpleasant things, the other is the memory of pleasant things. Children often have a memory of pleasant things more that unpleasant things, that's why they keep themselves cheerful most of the time.
As we grow older, we lose our innocence, and our unpleasant memories increase more than the pleasant ones.That is again the importance of spiritual practices, meditation is to put the wheel back, it is bring back the pleasant memories more and more, and to reduce the unpleasant memories to an almost insignificant amount. When the memory is lost then the memory of who I am, what do I want in my life, the memory of reality, the truth, seeing life in context with the universe - that's called wisdom, and that is lost. Then there is no peace left, and there is no happiness.However, those moments have been beneficial when you have expressed your anger without really getting mad, or losing yourself completely. You can show anger, but not that anger in which you are lost, shivering and shaking. In life it is impossible to deal with all situations without at least sometime, somewhere showing some anger. Don't expect to be a sort of flat, bland, goody-goody thing. Sometimes you have to show anger, it's alright, but those moments have you noticed that it's not really taking away your sense of peace, or sense of centredness. Like the rishi, Dhurvasa, he was a sage, a saint who used anger as an exercise, to see whether in spite of anger he didn't lost himself, or lose his centredness.So again and again, pull back your attention from the objects of the senses and back to the sources of mind, the source of consciousness.
This journey within, gives you the strength, endurance, which makes you endure all different situations in life however unpleasant or pleasant they may be. The practices, meditation, all these things are there to withdraw the mind, to take it to its Source even for a few minutes, and then you see after meditation you feel so fresh. How many of you feel like that, raise your hands? And what the world is missing, this key to success in life, what people out there do not know is a simple wisdom, a simple knowledge about life, of returning back to the Source. Knowledge of consciousness, and human values, are what makes life rich, energetic, pleasant and beautiful.

The 4 truths that Buddha Discovered - Sri Sri Ravishankar


When Buddha got enlightened on that full moon day in the month of May, it is said that he maintained silence for the whole week. He did not say a word.. Mythology says that all the angels in the heaven were frightened. They knew that it was only once in a millennium that someone blossoms like Buddha. Now he was silent! The angels then requested him to say something. He said, “Those who know, they know even without my saying and those who do not know, will not know even if I say something. Any description of light to a blind man is of no use. There is no point in talking to those who have not tasted the ambrosia of life, and therefore I am silent.

How can you convey something so intimate and personal? Words cannot. And as many scriptures in the past have declared words end where truth begins.”

The angels said, “What you say is right. But consider those who are on the borderline, who are neither fully enlightened nor totally ignorant.( Refer The way to get rid of the obstacles - SriSri ) For them, a few words will give a push, for their sake you speak and every word of yours will create that silence.”

The purpose of words is to create silence. If words create more noise, then they have not reached their goal. Buddha's words would definitely create silence, because Buddha is the manifestation of silence. Silence is the source of life and is the cure for diseases. When people are angry, they maintain silence. First they shout and then comes the silence. When one is sad, they ask to be left alone and retreat into silence. Similarly, silence is the recourse one takes to if ashamed. If one is wise too, there’s silence.

When Jesus was asked, “Are you the son of God?” he kept silent; it was the wisest thing to do. When you are telling someone you have a pain in the leg and they want you to prove it, how is that possible?

When you cannot prove something as deep as pain how can you prove something like enlightenment or divinity? Joy and fulfillment bring silence while desire brings noise.

Look at the noise in your mind. What is it about? More money? More fame? More recognition? Fulfillment? Relationship? The noise is about something; silence is about nothing. Silence is the basis; noise is the surface.

From the very beginning Buddha lived a very satisfied life. Any pleasure was at his feet the moment he wanted it. One day he said, “I would like to go and see what the world is.”

He started thinking when he saw someone who was sick, someone who was old and someone who was dying. These three instances were good enough to bring in him the knowledge that there is misery. When he saw someone sick, he said, “enough! I have experienced it.” Just one glimpse of an old man and a corpse was enough Buddha said, “there is no joy in life; I am dead already! There is no meaning in life. Let me go back.”

Buddha set out in quest of truth, all by himself, leaving his palace, wife and son.
Stronger the silence, powerful will be the questions that arise from such a silence.

Nothing could stop him. He knew he wouldn’t be able to get away during day, so he quietly escaped at night and his search continued for several years. He did all that people told him to do, he went from place to place, fasted, and he walked many paths, before discovering four truths.


1 : “There is misery (Dukha) in the world.”
In life, there are only two possibilities: one is to observe the world around us and know from others’ suffering and futile exercises,
the second is experience it and find that it is misery.
There is no third possibility. If you are sensitive, you don’t need to go through all that yourself. You can look at those who are suffering and become wise.


2 : The second truth is, “There is a cause for misery.” You can be happy without a reason. Joy does not need a reason, laughter does not need a joke but misery has a cause.

3 : The third truth is, “It is possible to eliminate misery.”

4 : The fourth truth is, “There is a path to be out of misery.”

Following the four truths, he gives the eight-fold path of right equanimity, right vision, right silence, right meditation etc. Buddha also said that the three things to do are Sheela, which means conduct, Samadhi, which means an equanimous meditative state, and Pragya, which means awareness.

Buddha was born at a very interesting time in India’s history, at a time when India was prosperous and had reached its height in philosophical thinking. In a highly intellectual society, people think they know it all, but in fact, they have not known at all. This was the case in India. So Buddha said, “Come, I have a simple technique for you. Keep your concepts to yourself, but just come and sit.” Then Buddha gave them four steps.
They are:

1 : Observe the body (Kayaanu Paschana)

2 : Observe the sensations (Vedananu Paschana)

3 : Observe the flow of mind (Chittanu Paschana)

4 : Observe your true nature (Dhammanu Paschana)

So, Buddha spoke and taught for years. Thousands would sit still, observe and meditate and become free. Buddha would not indulge in any philosophic discussion.

I think it is mandatory for every psychologist to study Buddha! . Buddha has propounded all that there is to know about the mind and its functions in such a methodical manner.

Mind is noise; the source of the mind is silence. That’s why Buddha said, “no mind”. He was referring to the chain of thoughts that simply wander in the mind all the time.

At a time when there was so much prosperity, Buddha gave a begging bowl to his main disciples and asked them to go and beg! He made kings take off their royal robes and take a bowl in their hand! Not that they were in need of food but he wanted to teach them the lesson of becoming ‘nobody’ from being ‘somebody’. You are nobody; you are insignificant in this Universe. When kings and geniuses of that time were asked to beg, they became embodiments of compassion.

Observe your true nature. What is your true nature? It is peace, compassion, love, friendliness and joy and it is silence that gives birth to all this.. Silence swallows the sadness, guilt, and misery and gives birth to joy, compassion and love. Buddha came to take away the misery, the guilt, the fear, the arrogance, the ignorance, and bring back wisdom, strength, beauty, knowledge and peace.

Benefits of controlled breathing{Read Sudarshan Kriya}- Study by Researchers of Harvard Medical School


A type of controlled breathing with roots in traditional yoga shows promise in providing relief for depression. The program, called Sudarshan Kriya yoga (SKY), involves several types of cyclical breathing patterns, ranging from slow and calming to rapid and stimulating, and is taught by the nonprofit Art of Living Foundation.

One study compared 30 minutes of SKY breathing, done six days a week, to bilateral electroconvulsive therapy and the tricyclic antidepressant imipramine in 45 people hospitalized for depression. After four weeks of treatment, 93% of those receiving electroconvulsive therapy, 73% of those taking imipramine, and 67% of those using the breathing technique had achieved remission.

Another study examined the effects of SKY on depressive symptoms in 60 alcohol-dependent men. After a week of a standard detoxification program at a mental health center in Bangalore, India, participants were randomly assigned to two weeks of SKY or a standard alcoholism treatment control. After the full three weeks, scores on a standard depression inventory dropped 75% in the SKY group, as compared with 60% in the standard treatment group. Levels of two stress hormones, cortisol and corticotropin, also dropped in the SKY group, but not in the control group. The authors suggest that SKY might be a beneficial treatment for depression in the early stages of recovery from alcoholism.

A student asked Buddha, "Are you the messiah?"
"No", answered Buddha.
"Then are you a healer?"
"No", Buddha replied.
"Then are you a teacher?" the student persisted.
"No, I am not a teacher."
"Then what are you?" asked the student, exasperated.
"I am awake", Buddha replied.

There are beautiful IT/THAT/GORGEOUS BEINGS IN THE FLESH THAT ARE AWAKE.You go near them and there are NO Memories ONLY the cool peace of YOURSELF/PEACE beyond measure & you know you've fallen in LOVE FOREVER. HE is your very NATURE. YOUR VERY SELF. No doubts thoughts questions PURE FREEDOM. Not just for a moment an hour a day-FOREVER.

5 Ways to get rid of your past - Sri Sri Ravishankar

Q. How does one get rid of unpleasant memories and limitations?

1. Know the impermanent nature of the world and events.

2. Know the non-existence of past events right now and accept them.

3. Be dispassionate and centered. Memories of Self are gained by service to the noble.

4. Increase prana - So Ham! So what!!

5. Have Divine company / presence.
